Description

API Spec 15PX, Specification for Crosslinked Polyethylene (PEX) Line Pipe, currently under development by API Subcommittee 15 (Fiberglass and Plastic Tubulars). Will cover material, design, manufacture, and testing requirements for PEX line pipe used in oil & gas production and transportation. PEX offers superior high-temperature strength, creep resistance, and chemical resistance compared to conventional PE (API 15LE) through crosslinking of polyethylene molecular chains.

Applying API Spec 15PX starts with confirming the edition named in the contract, the product scope, and any purchaser-specific additions. Material system, dimensions, pressure or temperature rating, manufacturing route, and service environment should be mapped to the clauses that actually apply. Before testing, the inspection and test plan should define sampling frequency, specimen conditioning, calibrated equipment, witness points, acceptance criteria, and retest rules. A traceable report records sample and batch identity, the method and edition used, environmental conditions, raw observations, calculations, measurement uncertainty where relevant, deviations, and the decision against each requirement.
